0 World Population Day July 11

World Population Day

On this World Population Day, I call for urgent, concerted action by Member States to bridge the gap between demand and supply for reproductive health care. We must mainstream reproductive health and rights into all development and poverty reduction plans. Investing in universal access to reproductive health is a crucial investment in healthy societies and a more sustainable future."

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

0 Secrets of Mona Lisa

The images are part of an exhibition, "Mona Lisa Secrets Revealed," which features new research by French engineer Pascal Cotte and debuts in the United States at the Metreon Center in San Francisco, where it will remain through the end of this year. The Mona Lisa showcase is part of a larger exhibition called "Da Vinci: An Exhibition of Genius."

Cotte, founder of Lumiere Technology, scanned the painting with a 240-megapixel Multi-spectral Imaging Camera he invented, which uses 13 wavelengths from ultraviolet light to infrared. The resulting images peel away centuries of varnish and other alterations, shedding light on how the artist brought the painted figure to life and how she appeared to da Vinci and his contemporaries.

0 10 top companies in the world( Innovation)

In conducting  latest Global Innovation 1000 study

The results were striking: Seven of the top 10 innovators were not among the top 10 spenders on innovation. Many of those identified by their peers as top innovators actually spent well below their industry averages on R&D, as a percentage of sales. And, most important, the top 10 innovators turned in better financial performances than the top 10 spenders.

0 World music day June 21

world music day

The World Music Day has its origins in France. American musician Joel Cohen (no relations with Leonard Cohen) of the Boston Camerata fame proposed an all-night music celebration to mark the beginning of the summer solstice in 1976 while he was on a scholarship to study music in Paris. The first Fete de la Musique took place in Paris in 1982 as French music and dance director Maurice Fleuret pursued Cohen's ideas.

Eversince 1982, June 21 has been celebrated across many countries as World Music Day. Typically, the World Music Day features amateur and professional musicians performing on the streets, in squares, in public places. The slogan Faites de la musique (Make music), a homophone of Fete de la Musique, is used to promote this goal.

Larger bands typically throw a free gig and invite cross-genre musicians to share the stage with them. The official Fête de la Musique organisation in Paris give sanction to events on two basic conditions - one that all concerts must be free to the public and two, all performers donate their time for free.

0 How to Type Indian Rupee Symbol in Computer

After the Official Symbol for the Indian Rupee was finalized by the Union Cabinet, every one in the country were curious about “How to Type Indian Rupee Symbol in Computer using MS-Word?“. So i thought of sharing this small tutorial on writing INR Rupee Symbol using computer keyboard.

The symbol of Indian Rupee doesn’t have a Unicode character and it can take from a few days to a year for the new symbol to get accepted by the Unicode Consortium’s Unicode Technical Committee that is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Unicode Standard, including the Unicode Character Database.

Until then, you can use the Indian Rupee font designed by Foradian Technologies using (`) key of the keyboard.

How to install Rupee font?

1. Download the Rupee.tff file

2. Copy the file to C:\Windows\Fonts directory.(for Windows XP users)

2. Right-click the file and choose “Install”. (for Windows 7/Vista users)

NOTE: As all the computers all not having this font installed, It is advised not to use this font in your documents such as MS-Word and other applications. Because, when you open such a document on another computer the viewer will not be able to see the symbol as the font is not installed on his computer. The Rupee font is strictly for designing purposes.

0 Japanese supercomputer becomes world's fastest

A Japanese machine has become the fastest supercomputer in the world, making calculations three times faster than a Chinese rival, its developers said today. The K Computer, developed by Fujitsu Ltd and the state-funded RIKEN institute of physical and chemical research, has achieved 8.162 quadrilli on calculations per second (petaflops), they said.

One quadrillion is made up of a thousand trillions. It overtook China's Tianhe-1A of the National Supercomputing Centre in Tianjin, which became the world number-one in November and is capable of operating at 2.6 petaflops.

The K Computer's performance was recognised by the authoritative biannual Top500 List of Supercomputers released today at the 2011 International Supercomputing Conference in Hamburg, Germany.

It was the first time since 2004 that a supercomputer built in Japan has claimed the top spot. NEC's Earth Simulator reigned supreme from June 2002 to November 2004.

The machine is still being configured and has been assembled since October 2010 at the RIKEN Advanced Institute for Computational Science in Kobe, western Japan. It is targeted to be completed by June 2012, the statement said.

It is made up of 672 computer cabinets equipped with a current total of 68,544 CPUs, Fujitsu and RIKEN said in a press release. "Use of the K computer is expected to have a groundbreaking impact in fields ranging from global climate research, meteorology, disaster prevention, and medicine, thereby contributing to the creation of a prosperous and secure society," it added.

0 Kiss Online With Smooching Machine

In a bid to enhance long-distance relationships, Japanese researchers have developed a kissing machine "Smooching Machine" that lets users ‘transmit the feeling of a kiss’ over the Internet. The device, created by the Kajimoto Laboratory at the University of Electro-Communications, consists of a hardware receptacle that is placed into the mouth.

Then the software records your tongue motion and transmits them to the other connected device, which moves accordingly.
The lab is still working on recreating other elements of a kiss other than tongue movement – like breathing and the sense of taste.
“The elements of a kiss include the sense of taste, the manner of breathing, and the moistness of the tongue. If we can recreate all of those I think it will be a really powerful device,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted them as explaining in a video showcasing the device prototype.
“If you have a popular entertainer use this device and record it, that could be hugely popular if you offer it to fans,” they concluded.

0 ISRO builds India's fastest supercomputer:SAGA-220

Indian Space Research Organisation has built a supercomputer, which is to be India's fastest in terms of theoretical peak performance of 220 TeraFLOPS (220 Trillion Floating Point Operations per second).

The supercomputer "SAGA-220", built by the Satish Dhawan Supercomputing Facility located at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram at a cost of about Rs 14 crore was inaugurated by K Radhakrishnan, Chairman ISRO at VSSC today, ISRO said in a statement.
The new Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) based supercomputer, "SAGA-220" (Supercomputer for Aerospace with GPU Architecture-220 TeraFLOPS) is being used by space scientists for solving complex aerospace problems.
"SAGA-220" is fully designed and built by Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre using commercially available hardware, open source software components and in house developments.
The system uses 400 NVIDIA Tesla 2070 GPUs and 400 Intel Quad Core Xeon CPUs supplied by WIPRO with a high speed interconnect.
With each GPU and CPU providing a performance of 500 GigaFLOPS and 50 GigaFLOPS respectively, the theoretical peak performance of the system amounts to 220 TeraFLOPS, the statement said.
The present GPU system offers significant advantage over the conventional CPU based system in terms of cost, power and space requirements, it said.
The system is environmentally green and consumes a power of only 150 KW. This system can also be easily scaled to many PetaFLOPS (1000 TeraFLOPS).

0 World's Fastest computer :IBM Mira 2011

The  IBM is now beating the World’s fastest SuperComputer to grab the crown, which at the moment belongs to China’s Tianhe-1A .

United States is now owns the fastest SuperComputer, pushing China to the second place, of course leaving Google Plex aside. Very recently, China had pushed Cray XT5 Jaguar to the Rank 2. Although, you can Build yourself Supercomputers, it does cost millions when its built as a nation’s pride.
